Grange: Shelly a great role model for Jamaica’s women

Sports Minister Olivia Grange has praised Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce for the mark she made on Jamaica's track and field legacy.

"Shelly has truly been outstanding and a great role model for the women of Jamaica," Grange said.

She noted that the Government is making plans to honour the athletes who competed at the recent World Athletics Championships in Tokyo and that will also include showing gratitude to the retired sprinter.

According to her, discussions are taking place with the athletes and their representatives for ideal celebrations:

"We must do something for Shelly to honour her and we are in consultations as to what is the appropriate function for the athletes because they are young people and they don't like the formal kind of events and so we are consulting with them to see what they would like and then we will stage that event. But we will be doing something very special for Shelly," the sports minister said.
